Lorraine Kinross writes in response to Helena Wasserman's article 'In defence of South Africa and its superior discontent' saying that after settling in California, her family realised they missed South Africa and decided to return home.
Excellent article Helena Wasserman! My husband, I and three children left South Africa for California some 40 years ago as we had no confidence in the future of South Africa.
Everything worked, water, electricity, our jobs and we made some lovely friends in our new "home".
Then the rot set in and we realised that living out of South Africa was very sterile and we longed for our country and family. Within a week of making our decision, we left California and returned to wonderful South Africa.
My kids had their grandparents once again, they had their aunts, uncles and cousins and very happy parents.
Leaving this wonderful (though full of shortfalls) country is not at all easy, and furthermore living away from South Africa is devastating. Lets all remain and build this country up again to where it should be on the world stage.
