RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo are close to signing Ghanaian teenager King Faisal Owusu on a year-long loan, according to Brazilian media reports.
Under the terms of the deal, the 18-year-old striker would be tied to the six-time Brazilian Serie A champions until December with the option of an extension or purchase, Globo Esporte said on Thursday.
Sao Paulo's interest forms part of wider efforts by the club to forge close ties with the African continent.
Owusu, who plays with Accra-based Great Farcos FC, would be the second African player in Sao Paulo's squad, joining Nigerian Azeez Olalekan Balogun. The latter's loan agreement expires later this month.
Sao Paulo are currently playing in the Sao Paulo state championship as they fine-tune preparations for the Brazilian Serie A season, which begins on April 16.
